is a patch that should go upstream, IMHO. Can you _please_ submit this
patch upstream, explaining your reasoning behind it, rather than
silently carrying it in debian?

Now that there finally is a public version controlled repo for the
debian branch, I would think that Andrew no longer has any objections
against dropping the debian/ subdirectory upstream.
