I've just tried the alternative "(void)" fix for "result unused" on
hurd, alas:

services_linux.c: In function ‘sigchld_handler’:
services_linux.c:466:5: error: ignoring return value of ‘write’, declared with attribute warn_unused_result [-Werror=unused-result]
     (void) write(sigchld_pipe[1], "", 1);
     ^
cc1: all warnings being treated as errors
