we cannot assume that everyone can use git, if he wants. There are many
areas in the world, where the only accessible internet-capable device is
either a smartphone or a foreign PC in internet cafes, schools or similar
institutions.
So forcing on git as the tool to use would be a burden IMO.

Activating Weblate for the Debian-Installer has brought translation updates
for languages, that were orphaned for years before.
However, as mentioned in another mail, the binding of such translators to the
project seems (sometimes) to be less strong compared to translators using git.
