If RAID1 'works' also with one disk, it really sounds like a good idea.
If we do not mind using an empty /opt on an extra partition we can of
course make LVM7_A standard. However, a bit 'configuring' is probably
needed anyway in most cases.

Usually not, it should be added by scripts/DISKLESS_SERVER/10-setup.
Perhaps you forgot adding that class to the server?
