Could be.  My observation is that the code in question is not valid C
nor C++, as far as I can tell.  I have no idea if converting it to
either valid C or C++ will improve the situation.

Compiler ICE on it might be (and probably is) a bug in the compiler.
The compiler might handle valid C and C++ code better.
