I had a quick look into MELTING5.  It is ... hmmm.  At first I'd suggest
the precompiled jar file and all the formats of autobuilded docs (dvi,
ps, pdf, txt which is a simple copy of tex ... and there's even a swap
file .melting.tex.swp inside the tarball, moreover there are images
duplicated and in different formats so this tarball is just not a source
tarball).  So stripping down the upstream tarball to something what is
really needed and providing a reasonable Makefile would probably the
first step and asking upstream to release this as melting-src-5.tgz or
something like this.  To create a Makefile I need to understand how the
jar file is actually builded - I'm a bit undereducated in Java.

In short: This is not a quick shot at a new version but repackaging from
scratch - Java knowledged people are prefered for this task
