[Debian-med-packaging] Bug#584918: python-insighttoolkit3: Python package installation not usable

Package: python-insighttoolkit3
Version: 3.16.0-1
Severity: important
Hi,
the ITK Python bindings get installed without a their own package --
meaning all files end up in /usr/lib/pyshared/. Therefore I cannot do
things like:
>>> import itk
This should break virtually all python packages assuming a similar
layout as the one created by the ITK upstream installer -- and I guess
that most software does that.
This change has already been suggested in:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=516766#15
I report this issue against 3.16, but it is still present in the latest
version in unstable.
Thanks,
Michael
