Package: insighttoolkit
Version: 3.18.0-3
Severity: normal
Hi,
ITK sources contain (among others) a fork/convenience copy of the NIfTI
libaries, and the package builds it as libitkniftiio and libitkznz. This
copy is quite outdated in comparsion to the version shipped in the
libnifti1 Debian package. This library had e.g. memory leak issues in
the past and it would be good if Debian's ITK would build on top of the
work that has been done on this package.
Please do not build this fork, but link against the Debian version.
Similar rational probably applies to expat/jpeg libs included in ITK.
But especially for libnifti it seems to be urgent. We are currently
investigating a memory leak issue in ANTS
(http://packages.debian.org/sid/ants) that might be caused by a bug in
libnifti that has been fixed long ago and came back through ITK.
If that turns out to be the case, I'd file an appropriate bug for that.
Thanks,
Michael
