Can you please be a bit more verbose what you mean with "start it in GNOME"?

Can you please try the following in addition to your way to "start":

  1. start gnome-terminal and type epigrass
  2. "start command" epigrass
  3. Use menu entry "Education" and pick the epigrass item

What happens if you do these three things?  Any error messages at
terminal or logfiles.  I'm not using Gnome but xfce which is technically
quite similar but I can not reproduce your observations.  The three
methods (or their xfce equivalents just work)

BTW, you should please be a bit careful with the severity "Grave".
