Matthias,

I checked if oneiric was available for PPAs and, my bad, looked at the wrong
place and thought it was not. I monitored regularly Launchpad to see if it was
attempted to build 1.3 against oneiric. This is the most straightforward way
to check if seqan 1.3 can be built with ld --as-needed.

But as a DD, you know well that we expect experienced bug reporters to check
themselves if the bug is still present in Sid, so your help is welcome.

Other volunteers are of course also welcome to test if seqan 1.3 is buildable
with --as-needed. Given the changes between versions 1.2 and 1.3, what I can
only tell is that it is not known unless tested, similarly to any package that
had a large update.

In my opinion, the diff between seqan 1.2 and 1.3 is large enough that one can
not deduce much from the failure on 1.2. The makefile you patched is not used
anymore, and the build system is now based on cmake.

Cheers
