I guess this is caused by some problem with pristine-tar.  My advise
would be to fetch ball_1.4.1+20111206.orig.tar.gz from your Debian
mirror and move it into ../tarballs directory.  This should have the
effect that pristine-tar is not called to recreate the tarball but
rather take the given one.
