Well, otherwise it would be grave, not serious.

Do you mean other packages that use the libraries? Then it's not "making
easier", it's "making it work without additional crutches", and #694846 is
an example of a bug that was already caused by this bug and worked around
by overlinking, instead of fixing the core issue.
