That's a shame.  Removing the package from the archive would be the
obvious way forward, and I can't see how it would interfere with the
packaging effort at all.

Disagreeing is fine, but this is a case of the Debian project
knowingly asking mirror admins to violate the GPL.  I don't think I'm
overreacting by pointing that out and trying to get it resolved.

If you think I have misunderstood the GPL, could you point out where
in its text my error is?  If we are misunderstanding each other, is
there someone whose opinion you respect that could help us get the
facts clear?

This is not to say that I don't think packaging ensembl is valuable.
On the contrary, it is a valuable project and I hope it can be a model
for getting similar projects done well in the future without abusing
project resources.
