I do not understand how it happens if it works with pbuilder on my
server so I would say yes.
As it is arch independent,  buildd does not rebuild the package from
source, there were several in debian-devel on this subject. It would be
nicier to get all packages rebuild from source, even arch indep packages.

Maybe you could try to rebuild the package on your side to check that
there is no computer config/env  bias that could raise the error while
being ok on my side.
