The log shows that the machine is using nouveau---my guess is that this
is nouveau-specific and not optimus-specific.

I do not have the resources to pursue this at the moment.  For
posterity/anyone interested, I'd first verify this is broken with a
'normal' nouveau-only system.  Once established, it's likely that
glTexImage3D is either failing or giving back GL_OUT_OF_MEMORY; one
will probably have to dig into Mesa/nouveau to find out why.

It might be enough to just get an apitrace of it failing and then
sending that off to the nouveau folks.
