Hello Andreas et al.

The NEWS file says this:

* remove dependency on plyr

and in fact a simple "rgrep plyr" on the source shows nothing in the
real source (excluding debian/* files).

Therefore, AFAIK, the current dependency is artificial and should be
removed. Patch follows.
