That's not feasible now because there is a dependency web in SMRTAnalysis and upstream does not yet support python3--I had asked about this and was told it will happen eventually, but is not an immediate priority. Before asking upstream, I had tried porting their foundational python package, pbcore, (also a dependency of pbalign) and it is not a trivial case.
