You are perfectly right and I discussed this with Gregor Hermann in
advance.  We decided that an MD5 sum identical orig.tar.gz is more
important and I do not consider to fix this since I do not think this is
a bug.  So I'm tempted to close this (or if you insist that this is a
bug I'd in favour of tagging it wontfix).  Upstream is basically dead so
I do not expect that they will release a new version but you can try
contacting them if you think that this is really important to you.
