Sure thing, but vxl is packaged since 2009, and itk since 2007, so that
means there must be a reason why is is not done. Actually, Mathieu
enabled it in 2012 (3.20.1-2), and then Steve removed it again as of
4.5.0-1.
Well, now looking at it ... the vxl diff is about 12k lines, and
glancing over the code, there are changes in the ITK code of any
thinkable type: renaming variables, changed source code formatting,
real bug fixes, and I've spotted also one real algorithmic change.
I conclude that we will continue to use the embedded copy :(
