The command is completely broken, but unfortunately the regression tests for
this command are not run by `make test`.  (probably by accident)

This reminds me that `make test` fails on Debian because of issues with seeded
random numbers.  It would be a great help if somebody would have time to solve
that problem (which may be hard).
