I was curious indeed when I saw iva fail, given that it does not use OpenSSL at all.
Investigation of the build log led me to believe that the cause of this is a problem with Python’s multiprocessing module in pbuilder runs, which I suspect is connected to /dev/shm not being writable. This is a problem that also occurs in the rebuilds done by the Reproducible Builds folks [1].

I am not sure if I can just close this bug as it does not relate to OpenSSL and I should probably file a bug indicating this pbuilder associated issue.
