I've once got the hint from some R upstream that he is not adding tests
since generating the vignettes actually is testing the package.  As far
as I understand this at least is using the R package to some extend (a
bit more than just loading it) so I think generating vignettes is a
valid alternative.

Do you think this is not a good idea?
