Hi Steffen,

please lets move the discussion to the according Debian bug which I just
opened.

I had a quick look into this and updated the packaging Git[1] with the
latest upstream source.  As far as I can see JAI was removed upstream so
we can drop the distinction between free and non-free package.

However, the upstream build system has changed to maven and I'm not a
Java programmer / packager (just stepped in for the actual Uploaders of
this package).  If you are working on the package anyway feel free to do
it right inside the Debian Med packaging Git.  (Either create an alioth
login and I'll add you to the team to grant you commit permissions or
'git am' is fine as well.)
