Oops, I forgot that you had claimed simde for packaging. I started a
package at https://salsa.debian.org/med-team/simde but I'm waiting to see
if upstream will make a versioned release:
https://github.com/nemequ/simde/issues/50

Already I have included simde as a code copy in many Debian packages,
including bowtie2. Thanks for the hint!

Once the simde package is done we can replace the code copies with a proper
build-depends on libsimde-dev
