I think droping the packages from Debian completely is a bad idea.  They
would need to pass the new queue again when we decide to reintroduce
them which always takes some time.  So leaving them in unstable with the
bugs open is OK (there are worse package than these in Debian
unfortunately :-( )

Perfect.  I guess you can not trust me in hacking D :-P but may be its a
good oppoprtunity to hold a Debian packaging workshop for those
attendees who might be interested.  At the last Debian Med sprints I did
life packaging workshops where attendees can name a package they want to
see in Debian and than we did the packaging.  This turned out quite
successful since we needed to face practical problems (in contrast to
just read the docs and use the hello package example) and in the end
Debian just had one package more which was requested by the user (at
least in the successful cases).  It also explains how to integrate
smoothly into the Debian Med team.
