After looking a second time to the log output, it seems to be
caused by tests fetching the module from the source code
directory instead of the installed module.  Errors seem caused
because cython modules are not available right away under their
compiled form in the source code directory.  Isolating tests
from the rest of the source code somehow seems necessary.
