I'd be really happy if you would consider separating changes that
require a trip to new.  This bug is blocking python-biopython from
migrating to testing which in turn triggers zillions of testing removal
warnings.  A simply fix for the RC issue would help reducing the noise
and everything else could go through NEW and take longer time, thought.
