Thanks for the report!  AFAICT, my approach to go.mod and go.sum (moving
both aside) ran afoul of https://go.dev/blog/go116-module-changes, and
the "GO111MODULE=off" workaround noted there won't work for Impish
(which rmadison tells me already has 1.17) or likely long for Debian.

I have some thoughts about how to craft a proper fix, and will look into
doing so when I get a chance.
