Greetings,

I had a look for myself in the test failures and there are some
that I do not feel confident to fix myself.  I'm thinking
notably of the uint8 overflow case where the -1 usage seems to
be used to carry some sort of error code and could potentially
require involved changes.

I identified an issue upstream[1] that looks to be related to
the migration to numpy 2.x.  At least the overflow error on
int32 is matching.
