I looked at the change. I see it only affects the test suite.
Unless you feel it is too early, I believe it would be okay to
ship the change to unstable and tackle the bug. In return, this
would build confidence upstream that the fix is appropriate. At
worse, if something crops up, it is always possible to reopen
the present bug, or open another one more relevant to the
hypothetical new situation. I consider proceeding to upload
maybe tomorrow, unless you have objections?
Remark: I ran into the auxiliary issue you pinpointed upstream
at about the same rate as yours [1], but without cherry picking
the patch, so I confirm this is really an independent problem.
