Hello Simon,
I am the maintainer of gnome-authenticator in the Python team, and
indeed, its rewrite in Rust means it'll take time to update as there
are many crate dependencies that needs to be available in the archive
first (I am also working with the Rust team to progress this).
Ideally, I'd preferr of course that the package remains available in
booksworm and I'll be working toward that.
