Thanks for your detailed report! The bug is fixed in unstable where I 
just uploaded the new upstream release, and I've prepared a backport for 
stable-updates.

As I don't have any compatible hardware, I'd appreciate it if one could 
confirm the CI-generated package from 
https://salsa.debian.org/DebianOnMobile-team/modemmanager/-/merge_requests/34 
does indeed fix this issue on Trixie (I'm fairly confident it does as 
this change is trivial, although real-world testing never hurts).
