The previous statement needs a correction:
Installing openjdk-6-jre-headless allows to run in TUI mode with 'scilab -nogui'.
Install openjdk-6-jre enables GUI mode.

Maybe scilab should require openjdk-6-jre-headless and recommend openjdk-6-jre?
