Package: hdfview
Version: 2.6-2
Severity: important

Hi there!

Thanks for pushing hdfview forward to a new version! My interest in hdfview is triggered by the DAMARIS project (http://damaris.berlios.de/), using pytables for experimental data archiving.

So I've checked the readability of the hdf files generated by this project and since version 2.6 I can no longer access the datasets. An example file will be supplied.

During browsing through the data tree, I get the following exceptions:
HDF5-DIAG: Error detected in HDF5 (1.8.3) thread 2411694960:
  #000: ../../../src/H5Adeprec.c line 214 in H5Aopen_name(): can't open attribute
    major: Attribute
    minor: Can't open object
  #001: ../../../src/H5A.c line 873 in H5A_open_by_name(): unable to load attribute info from object header
    major: Attribute
    minor: Unable to initialize object
  #002: ../../../src/H5Oattribute.c line 533 in H5O_attr_open_by_name(): can't locate attribute
    major: Attribute
    minor: Object not found
HDF5-DIAG: Error detected in HDF5 (1.8.3) thread 2411694960:
  #000: ../../../src/H5T.c line 1707 in H5Tclose(): not a datatype
    major: Invalid arguments to routine
    minor: Inappropriate type
HDF5-DIAG: Error detected in HDF5 (1.8.3) thread 2411694960:
  #000: ../../../src/H5A.c line 2283 in H5Aclose(): not an attribute
    major: Invalid arguments to routine
    minor: Inappropriate type

When I try to open a numeric dataset by double click, nothing happens. Using the open item of the context menu results in an error dialogue: java.lang.reflect.InvocationTargetException.

With the version 2.5 I can access the data.
