I've not tested on lam achitectures.
So I'have a question:
 openmpi does not support yet multi-threads
 (see eg http://www.open-mpi.org/faq/?category=supported-systems#thread-support )
 and we have deleted -DSCOTCH_PTHREAD in CFLAGS.

Is lam thread-safe ?
 There is a FAQ here http://www.lam-mpi.org/faq/category7.php3#question5
 but it's not clear for me...

Oups ! yes the symlinks .so should be in libxxx-dev packages.
