Thanks to the help of ukleinek and KiBi I "solved" that one:
On the sparc chroot libmpich2-dev was installed, which made that test
fail. Not sure if that's a bug in libpetsc3.1-dev.
However I get now the same FTBFS as originally reported. I guess we
call that progress...
