thanks for your kind reply.

The problem is: I don't have any value set for the EDITOR environment
variable!

  $ echo "x"${EDITOR}"x"
  xx

That's why I suspected that gedit could be a hard-coded (default)
choice of editor...
I am therefore reopening the bug report, hoping that the mystery may be
clarified.
