Thanks for this information. I didn't know there was a change in the
linker. Then I don't know whether this is specific to mpfr/gmp. I'll
try to do some more tests, such as testing with mpfr/gmp compiled by
me on both machines, but I don't have the time before next week.

I also wonder whether something can or should be changed on how the
libraries are built to accept -lmpfr alone or both -lmpfr -lgmp are
now always required (this is what I always do, except in one particular
script[*], for which I noticed the difference between machines).

[*] I think I just forgot the -lgmp, but since -lmpfr alone was
accepted, I didn't notice.
