It is a good thing that you see 2.5.2-4 fail like 2.5.2-3 since I didn't 
touch anything related to your problem.

That being said, I tried to compile 2.5.2-4 on three amd64 unstable 
systems and none had any issue. For each box, I tested the package by 
(1) dget-ting the package from mentors, (2) dpkg-source -x it, (3) then 
cd flint-2.5.2 and (4) finally dpkg-buildpackage -b -us -uc.

Additionally, on my main box I used pbuilder on the package (that can 
catch missing deps but doesn't change things much afaik).

Did you get your failures on the same box each time you saw the failure? 
What could be the difference?
