I invoked the reproducible gang, to have a fix that doesn't involve
faketime, which is not nice anyway, and maybe something that doesn't let
d/rules grow even more [1].

This is a even more thing, but orthogonal on having a reproducible fix
that doesn't involve faketime.
I'm going to cancel the NMU if I get a timely patch.

is not only for the clean removal, it's also for really finally kicking
those old libs (it's not only vtk5 we're hunting down) from the
archive...
[1] that anyway, I wonder, there are so many little things that makes
me uneasy, like the calling autoreconf that ignores error and manually
running it (and cleaning afterwards) instead of using the autoreconf
debhelper plugin (that is instead commented out), and manually calling
./configure instead of just using `dh_auto_configure -- -others-options-here`
that would get you multiarch as the other recent bug ask for, etc).
FTR, another thing that makes me wonder is the usage of the git
repositories you do: just importing the .dsc into it, instead of working
from it and creating the .dsc out of it (doing so I'd expect smaller
commits, with senseful commit message, etc, etc...).
