Bug#834247: ngspice is configured with --with-editline, --with-readline would work better

Package: ngspice
Version: jessie
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

ngspice can be configured to use libedit, or libreadline, or none.
debian ngspice uses --with-editline (which uses -ledit)
Yet the implementation of where_history() in libedit seems to be broken
  for a long time.
where_history() is used to format the prompt of an interactive ngspice
session. Due to this bug this prompt is not incremented as expected.

It seems libreadline works correctly.
Thus you might consider to configure with --with-readline
if there are no license issues.

Regards,
 Robert Larice
