Well, 6.2.1 was mentioned in the according bug report, but there is no
corresponding tarball, which means the next would be 6.3 and this comes
with an ABI and API changesthat will require some packages to be
corrected (at least itksnap), since they dropped some legacy code.

My experience with VTK is on the level of "I have some packages that
I'm interested to see in Debian, and they depend on VTK". I myself
don't write code that uses anything beyond the file IO.
