Package: spyder
Version: 2.3.5.2+dfsg1-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

*** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?
I use the Python IDE a lot. I have been using it for several years.
One of the very important features of Python IDE is that the IDE
seamlessly integrates with ipython. I am new to Debian (only started
   using it this year 2016).

Unfortunately this *.deb package of spyder does not have a
functioning ipython console... so the entire IDE IMO is unusable.
   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
     ineffective)?
Install the package. Open spyder. Look in the IDE at the "IPython
console" and you will see a dialog stuck in a while loop stating
   "Connecting to kernel..."

   The dialog never goes away.

   let's you run commands.
   * What was the outcome of this action?
The IDE is stuck in an infinite loop.
   * What outcome did you expect instead?
When Spyder IDE is working, you open the IDE and the ipython console displays the ipython console... and allows you to run commands (it doesn't have a dialog box).

NOTE:
- a quick google shows that others have experienced this issue
- my quick google shows that others experienced this issue when there
was an older version of zmq installed. my system has libzmq 4.0.5
  and python-zmq 15.1.0.

thanks.

this issue is a real SHOWstopper for me. i might consider reinstalling
Debian stable... to get a working version of spyder IDE.
