I have been working on improving the maintenance status of the Gmsh
package. I just wanted to respond to this bug and state that I find your
reasoning sound and would like to implement it, although I can't commit
to a timeline; my current priority is to get Gmsh 4 uploaded as I
already have a working package on the FreeCAD Community Extras PPA [1].
