alright, I see.

(it's a matter of taste I guess, I personally think that source packages
should be self-contained in the sense that they do not change during
build which I consider to be more robust)

[ jftr, that could be implemented easily, there is mechanism for that
via executable debhelper install files (or with dh-exec, which is yet
another mechanism to acchieve the same) ]
