Package: glbinding
Version: 2.1.1-2
Severity: wishlist
Hi,
the currently packaged version 2.1.1 is from 2016, while upstream had
a few more releases in the 2.x series and moved two years ago to the
3.x series which has slightly different header names and initialisation.
The latest release is a few months old already, but there are also
further commits in git, so that project seems far from death as the
packaged version in Debian could suggest.
I haven't looked at the requirements for updating a 2.x user to a 3.x,
I just did the reverse which isn't very hard, but that of course misses
out on all the bugfixes and new features of later releases and most
upstreams might not be too happy to support 'ancient' versions of
dependencies like glbinding.
glbinding seems not to have many reverse dependencies in Debian:
- globjects is from the same upstream, looks current
- forge seems to have switched away from glbinding in newer upstream
releases according to https://github.com/arrayfire/forge/pull/191
glbinding upstream seems to maintain a PPA for Ubuntu which might or
might not help with updating the packaging, I haven't looked at it.
I just stumbled over this project due to "Dear ImGui" adding support
for it (for the 3.x series of course) and the idea behind it seems
interesting and different enough from the other GL loaders to catch
my interest: So in case you need a sponsor for the upload or
if I can be of help in some other way feel free to contact me.
Best regards
