test_append_frame_column_oriented does still exist - it was being 
silently skipped by -m "not single".  Having removed that, it again 
crashes on armhf, as do TestHDFStore.test_encoding and 
test_select_filter_corner (but not test_complex_across_dimensions).

These tests are now again skipped to avoid an FTBFS, but are still a 
bug.  I don't have a backtrace because they don't crash in qemu-armhf.
