Bug#974560: mpi4py: autopkgtest regression on amd64, arm64 and ppc64el: Segmentation fault

Dear maintainer(s),

With a recent change in testing the autopkgtest of mpi4py started to
fail in testing when that autopkgtest is run on amd64, arm64 and
ppc64el. On top of that, the pure testing runs on ppc64el currently time
out.

Can you please investigate the situation and fix it?
