[1] contains a patch from a Debian porter, but considering the facts 
that limereg already missed the current Debian stable bullseye and the 
comment from upstream (who is also the original Debian packager) in [2], 
removal from Debian might be a better option?

I do not know how limereg compares to other tools like for example
elastix (based on ITK) or registrationx (part of CMTK) or other tools,
but neither the upstream bug tracker nor the Debian BTS indicate that
there would be an active userbase who report bugs or complained that
limereg is not in bullseye.
