Yes, I can confirm this. I nailed down the problem, I think, It is due 
to an incompatibility between the beamer class and the ucs package. I 
reported this to the upstream authors of beamer: 
https://github.com/josephwright/beamer/issues/921

David Carlisle replied wit this comment: “The ucs package is incompatible 
with latex's support for input encodings, it is maintained for legacy 
compatibility for some documents that were specifically using its 
commands but it should not be used with new documents.”

@Michele: Do you really need the ucs package?

At any rate, replacing "\\" by "\newline" does indeed fix the building 
problem. I will soon release a new version of the package.
